Inclement Weather Planning
For West ISD, the decision to delay to close school is based on a number of variables including:

• Actual and projected snowfall
• Icing and wind-chill factors
• Ability of the bus fleet to transport students to the campuses
• Ability of teachers, staff, and bus drivers to drive to the campuses (specifically those who live outside the district)
• Assessment of city street and road conditions (specifically in the rural areas of the district)
• Status of power and heat to the campuses

School Canceled Again for Wednesday, January 28, 2026
In reviewing the most current weather reports (including the freezing fog alert) and checking current and future road conditions, it appears the icy roads in parts of our community are still a challenge and will refreeze overnight. As mentioned in the previous Parent Square, the district covers over 127 square miles. Though I-35 and the in-town roads are mostly clear, there are many areas across our community that are not safe for the morning commute for our school buses, student drivers, families, and staff.

With this news, West ISD will again have a full-day school closure period for Wednesday, January 28, 2026. Please note this school closure period includes all extracurricular activities, games, and practices scheduled for today, Tuesday, January 27, and tomorrow, Wednesday, January 28, 2026. Please note Coach Woodard is working on a new date for the West vs. Clifton basketball games, and a make-up plan for the lost instructional days will be discussed during the upcoming February Regular Board Meeting. The state may still issue a waiver for these inclement weather days. 

In regards to the district's arrival time and school day plan for Thursday, January 29, 2026, the district will let everyone know the next steps via another Parent Square tomorrow.
