West ISD Students, Staff, Parents, and Guardians,

Thank you for your patience in regards to the next steps with our flu and other illness plan! Per my previous updates, I have made a final decision about the school plan for tomorrow, Thursday, December 18, and Friday, December 19, 2025. Here's the rundown:

• As of this Parent Square, we have 301 students out of school with flu or another illness. This is an increase of 98 students just since yesterday afternoon. This 301 student absentee figure equates to a 77.5% ADA percentage for today. On a typical day, we are around 96%.
• With this news, I plan to notify the McLennan County Health Department that West ISD will be closed beginning after school today, Wednesday, December 17, 2025, through Friday, December 19, 2025. 
  • For today, Wednesday, December 17, 2025, our After School program at West Elementary School will still take place. 

Student Activities

• All West Middle and High School softball and basketball games are cancelled for today, Wednesday, December 17, through Friday, December 19, 2025. 
  • Please note this includes practice time. Again, we are closing all West ISD campuses and buildings beginning after school today, Wednesday, December 17, 2025.
  • As a reminder, next week is the UIL-mandated School Closure period for all coaches and athletes. The dates are Monday, December 22, through Friday, December 26, 2025. 
• Tonight's performance by West High School Theatre of "A Charlie Brown Christmas" is cancelled.
• Tomorrow night's West Middle and High School Choir Concert will be rescheduled for January 2026. 
• Tomorrow night's West High School One Act Play (OAP) Tryouts will be rescheduled for January 2026. 
• All West Youth League Basketball practices are cancelled as well. 

Grade Reporting

• Grading Period 2 still ends on Friday, December 19, 2025, at 12:30 PM. Our teachers and staff have been working hard to record all grades in Skyward this week. 
• For UIL eligibility purposes for our secondary students, all students are eligible through the Christmas break. When the students return from the Christmas break, the eligibility window opens on Thursday, January 8, 2026, and then, eligibility is determined (passing or failing) on Thursday, January 15, 2026.

Please know the West ISD Maintenance and Custodial teams will work hard to clean and sanitize our campuses and buildings over the school closure period and Christmas break. I hope you all stay well and enjoy the time off with your families.
